Rejecting Christian Nationalism Faithfully: A Clergy Book Study of Building Beloved Community
The Louisiana Conference of The United Methodist Church invites clergy to a focused and timely webinar, Rejecting Christian Nationalism Faithfully, a clergy book study of Building Beloved Community: The Courage to Love in the Face of Tyranny. This clergy-only gathering creates a trusted space for thoughtful engagement, honest conversation, and faithful discernment around one of the most pressing challenges facing the church and society today.
Facilitated by Bishop Delores J. Williamston, the webinar will be a guided, in-depth unpacking of Building Beloved Community, a resource developed by the United Methodist Council of Bishops. Drawing on global stories from places like Ukraine, the Philippines, Germany, and Guatemala, the book explores how beloved community offers a faithful response to authoritarianism, fear, and division. Rooted in Scripture, tradition, and lived experience, it moves beyond diagnosis to offer a practical roadmap for love-centered leadership and resistance.
The webinar will include breakout rooms, allowing clergy to engage in small-group conversation with colleagues from across the Conference. Because this space is limited to clergy, participants are invited to speak openly, ask difficult questions, and reflect honestly on how Christian nationalism shows up in ministry contexts, communities, and congregational life. The goal is not debate, but faithful formation, clarity, and mutual support.
